Default Camp Eshom Area(Eshom Valley/Pierce Valley)

Anyone else out there explore a little in this area? There are a couple of abandoned buildings on Forest Road 14s37 that are on the map but it seems no one has been there in a very long time. Any ideas what this is or was? I also noticed recently that the upper gate on Pierce Valley road was open and many of the downed trees have been removed, but the road is badly rutted and nearly washed out in one section (Except for those like me with big tires and lift) and impassible for most. The bottom gate was still locked. Any Ideas what is located along this road that would require drainage pipe and cable/power underground?

We spotted 2 black bears near the pond in Pierce Valley off the Pierce Pond road, along with many many off trail tracks all over one hillside... jeez also noticed that some have decided to ignore the closed trail markers that dot many of the offtrail areas along Eshom Valley Road, these people are usually the idiots that go up there and get stuck in the snow with thier "pretend" 4x2 monster chevy trucks...

Anyway sorry for the rant, I frequent this area and would like to help anyway I can since I know some of you travel the area frequently also.

Robert

Awesome link Steve! I always wondered about some of the stories from up there. Ah, so many miles in the Sierra and so little time!

By the way, if you guys havent been up there in the past month, all of the gates are locked!? Except of course for the main road from heartland to hwy 180 cause there arent any gates. In the past 12 years I cant remember them ever locking all the gates.... guess the actions of a few have impacted us all.

A word of caution!!! In the past there have been some garden operations in that area so when you explore in that vicinity be carefull.
