Lock and Low
Four Wheel Drive Club Of Visalia

About Us:

Our club was founded in 1987 by Cristen Kaltoft and Mike Moore.  We have grown so much since then... added new members as well as teaching other individuals the fine art of 4 wheeling.

We currently have about 50 members including family. We have a board of directors and committees for various things. We hold fund raisers and safety clinics and have an annual Lock And Low anniversary event to celebrate us and our continuing efforts to keep trails open. :o)

Every year, our club donates to special causes to help the needy, keep trails clean & open, and to provide our members with positive meetings covering issues of a vast variety.

Club meetings.

Our club meets the first Thursday of every month.  At Amigos Mexican Restaurant on the corner of Akers and Walnut Avenues in Visalia.

What's new.

Right now, our club is trying our hardest to oppose the Land Protection Act that President Clinton is trying to enforce upon the Giant Sequoias in Sequoia National Forest.  We have sent letters and signed petitions for this cause. If you would like to help, please let us know by going to our Contact page and filling out the form or going to the Sierra National Forest Update page to copy/paste letters to send in .  We would sure appreciate it!  If you would like to know more about this issue, please visit Cal4Wheel.

Our Adopt-A-Trail

It's getting to be summer now and we are gearing up to take our first look at our Adopt-A-Trail, Mirror Lake since last fall.  We usually have some clean up to do, clearing fallen trees and putting rocks back in their place..  As well as making it as "passable" as we can for the average 4 wheeler.  We have a lot of fun!  It is a team effort!

In the summertime, almost every weekend you can find one of us here.  The trail is short... about 3 miles. Take Highway 168, out of Fresno, California, through Shaver Lake, pass Tamarack Summit till you come to the sign that says, 'Coyote Lake Jeep Trail'.  Follow that in about 6 miles to Sand Flats and find the signs for Mirror Lake. The trail heads approximately northeast. There is a tricky spot about a half mile in... a downward slope of gigantic boulders.  Going down is easy, it's coming up that's a killer! Long wheelbase vehicles will experience added difficulty on this trail as well as ALL vehicles must heed this warning.....

Warning

The hill on this trail holds a rating of 10.  Do not attempt it without lockers, winch, 33" or bigger tires, and at least one other vehicle.

There are 4 large camp spots that are wonderful.  A few of our members put their heads together and came up with some beautiful and very functional fire rings to put in each camp site.  So you can roast yer coffee and cook on the top... all without getting smoke in yer eyes.

The lake is a wonderful place for solitude and get-togethers.. If you so decide to venture down that way, contact us or look at our Events calendar in the forums for future runs to Mirror Lake. We'd love to have ya!
